Grief over Silicone

Yesterday Sammy had some obedience issues with his paci. He went into his room and got it. Not a super huge deal except he wouldn't put it back. He threw a huge fit, sat in time out, you name it he did it. But he still wouldn't put it away.

So I took it out and cut about a 1/4 an inch off the end of it. He was mad then he got over it and threw it away. He found another paci in his room on the floor and threw it away (a working paci).

So we decided he was ready to give up his habit and took the paci away cold turkey last night. He grieved like we stole his best friend from him. He cried for 20 minutes or so and then moved onto the next stage of paci grief. He got angry! He yelled for us and his paci. Then eventually he just went to sleep!

This morning he is already asking for his paci. I am in the office today so hopefully he gets out of his funk for Tim!

I made Lauren go cold turkey. We had 1 bad night and a couple of random bad days but in less than a week we were over the thing! It is worth it in the long run. My regret though is stripping Hailey of her blanky...in hind site - I should have let her take it to college with her if she wanted.

Oh poor Sammy! I know he will be fine in a day or two. I would so give in and buy more if Kendall started throwing a fit. I guess that is why my kids never wanted a paci. God knows I have ZERO will power! good luck to you guys!

Am I right in guessing a "paci" is a pacifier? We call them "dummies" here in Oz. Just about what you think they are when you are trying to wean a kid off them.
